Families organize into small private groups that walk, cycle or scoot to school together. On any given ride one parent leads; the other families follow its progress and get their children back with an auditable handoff.
Bikepool has two kinds of account: parent and school administrator. Leading a ride is something a parent does on a particular day, not a separate role.

A Bikepool is not only bicycles — a group can walk, scoot, ride a bike bus, or park nearby and travel the last stretch together.
How it works

A ride opportunity appears
Every weekday, one morning and one afternoon ride per group, generated at the school's configured times in the school's own timezone.

A parent volunteers
Claiming is first-come and atomic, so two parents can never both believe they have it. The second sees “another parent just claimed this ride”, never a raw error.

The leader picks a meeting point
Searched and resolved through MapKit, saving the place name, address and coordinates. The meetup belongs to that one ride and can be changed until it starts.

Riders are checked in
The leader resolves every expected rider and completes a safety checklist. A ride cannot start until everyone is accounted for and at least one rider is aboard.

The group travels together
Families follow the ride's progress while it is under way. Precise tracking begins only when the ride starts and stops when it ends.

Every child is handed off
Arrival, then a handoff recorded per child — in person, to an alternate adult, or self-release. The record is immutable; a correction is a new audited action.

Trusted family groups
A Bikepool is a set of families at one school, joined by invitation. Group chat is scoped to the group, never school-wide.
Parent leaders, per ride
Any parent in the group can volunteer for a specific ride, and withdraw. Nobody holds a standing leader role.
Morning and afternoon
Rides follow the school's departure and return times, generated across an eight-week horizon and topped up continuously.
Flexible meeting points
The leader chooses where to meet for that ride, with Open in Maps wherever a meetup is confirmed.
Expected rider lists
The leader sees the full roster for that ride only. A parent sees their own children by name plus an anonymous count of the other riders.
Auditable handoffs
Who collected each child, by what method, and when — written once and never overwritten.
Incidents routed narrowly
A child's incident alert goes to that child's guardians and the school's administrators — never broadcast to every family in the group.
A school-side board
Administrators see today's rides with exceptions first, plus codes, members, students, and reports counted from real records.
